The Pawtucket Public Library, formerly known as the Deborah Cook Sayles Public Library, is located at 13 Summer Street in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.Its main building, designed by Ralph Adams Cram and built in 1899–1902, and was a gift to the city from Pawtucket's first mayor, Frederic Clark Sayles, in memory of his recently deceased wife. Minerva Amanda Sanders was born February 11, 1837. [1] She was widowed at age 26 and was a teacher before beginning library work. [2]: 21 Sanders oversaw the Pawtucket subscription library before the free public library officially opened, and worked at the Pawtucket Free Public Library from its opening in 1876 until she retired in 1910. Pawtucket (/ p ə ˈ t ʌ k ɪ t / ⓘ pə-TUK-it [5]) is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 75,604 at the 2020 census, making the city the fourth-largest in the state. Pawtucket borders Providence and East Providence to the south, Central Falls and Lincoln to the north, and North Providence to the west.
