Steven A. Cohen (born June 11, 1956) is an American hedge-fund manager and owner of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB) since September 14, 2020, owning just over 97% of the team. [3] He is the founder of hedge fund Point72 Asset Management and S.A.C. Capital Advisors .
From 1978 to 2006, Cohen was the sole practitioner of his own law firm, practicing civil and criminal law. While serving as a legal advisor for the Memphis Police Department from 1975 to 1978, Cohen rose to political prominence when he was elected vice president of the Tennessee Constitutional Convention of 1977 at age 27.
