The Muskingum River Navigation Historic District is a 6,004 acres (24.30 km 2) historic district in Ohio's Coshocton, Morgan, Muskingum, and Washington counties, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The listing includes 12 contributing buildings, 32 contributing structures, and a contributing site. [1]
Coshocton County was established in 1811 with the county seat placed at Coshocton. The courts first met in Colonel Charles Williams Tavern and paid the owner $300 a year for rent. The county found this amount too large for the budget and instead turned to another location, a building owned by Wilson McGowan.

It was originally named Caldersburgh after its founder James Calder. After going bankrupt, the Coshocton merchant moved across the Muskingum River to some land he had managed to retain.
