GIS and RS training at the University of Pune started in June 2001 as a one-year diploma course for students from interdisciplinary backgrounds. Dr. (Ms.) Vrishali Deosthali started the course, aiming to create professionals armed with sound knowledge and practical experience, to serve in the remote sensing and GIS industry.
Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact with the object, in contrast to in situ or on-site observation. The term is applied especially to acquiring information about Earth and other planets .
The European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) [1] in an organization founded in 1977 under the auspices of the European Space Agency, the Council of Europe and the European Commission. [2] [3] [4] As of 2020, EARSeL encompasses more than 250 remote sensing research laboratories across Europe. [5]
Integrated Land and Water Information System (ILWIS) is a geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing software for both vector and raster processing. Its features include digitizing, editing, analysis and display of data, and production of quality maps.
Quantitative remote sensing is a branch of remote sensing. The quantitative remote sensing system does not directly measure land surface parameters of interest. Instead, the signature remote sensors receive is electromagnetic radiation reflected, scattered, and emitted from both the surface and the atmosphere . [ 1 ]
The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) is a Japanese remote sensing instrument onboard the Terra satellite launched by NASA in 1999. It has been collecting data since February 2000. ASTER image of Rub' al Khali (Arabia's Empty Quarter)
On 30 October 1990, the HNDE was gazetted as a parallel course to other Engineering diplomas in Sri Lanka. On 17 August 1994 , HNDE was transferred to the ministry of labour and vocational training from the ...
Dragon was the first commercial remote sensing software package designed to use only the native capabilities of off-the-shelf personal computers. At the time Dragon was developed, other PC remote sensing products such as Erdas required expensive special purpose graphics devices. Dragon was intended to be used for education in geography, geology ...
