In 1968, the airport became Salt Lake City International Airport [13] when a non-stop route to Calgary, Canada was awarded to Western Airlines. After airline deregulation in 1978, hub airports appeared. Western Airlines, with ties to Salt Lake City since its inception, increased service into hub status on May 1, 1982.
