Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is a North Carolina state park in Vance and Warren counties, North Carolina, in the United States. Located north of Henderson near the North Carolina- Virginia border, it includes 3,376 acres (13.66 km 2 ) [ 1 ] of woodlands along the shores of the 50,000-acre (202 km 2 ) man-made Kerr Lake .
The site was selected because of the granite in the area that could support a large concrete dam. During early construction, the project was called Buggs Island Lake after a downstream island which was named after Samuel Bugg, an 18th-century early pioneer. The 82nd United States Congress renamed the project the John H. Kerr Dam later in 1951. [1]

Lake Gaston is a reservoir in the eastern United States. [1] Part of the lake is in the North Carolina counties of Halifax, Northampton, and Warren. The part extending into Virginia lies in Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties. Lake Gaston is roughly 35 miles (56 km) long and covers over 20,000 acres (81 km 2), with 350 miles (560 km) of shoreline.
Boat traffic on the lake remains low relative to nearby Smith Mountain Lake, Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston. Leesville Lake is becoming a popular recreational area. Fishing is very popular, especially for striped bass. The 53-pound-7-ounce (24.2 kg) state record striped bass was caught out of Leesville Lake in 2000. [1]
