[1] Produced by Gonzo, directed by Umanosuke Iida and written by Chiaki J. Konaka, [2] the episodes are based on the characters and settings of the Hellsing manga series by Kouta Hirano but lead through a different story.
A ten-episode original video animation (OVA), titled Hellsing Ultimate, was produced by Geneon. It followed the manga storyline more closely than the anime series. [5] It was released between February 2006 and December 2012. In North America, both the TV series and the OVA were first licensed by Geneon Entertainment and later by Funimation.

Van Helsing is set in a post-apocalyptic near future. Vanessa Van Helsing, a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, awakens from a coma after her supposed death to find herself in a post-apocalyptic world, three years after an eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera had blanketed the world in ash, blocking out sunlight and allowing vampires to overrun humanity.

Hellsing is a manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano, also adapted as the anime series Hellsing, the OVA Hellsing Ultimate, and the abridgement Hellsing Ultimate Abridged. It tells the story of a powerful vampire named Alucard and his battle against supernatural forces in service of the titular Hellsing Organization.
