Blue Beat Records is an English record label that released Jamaican rhythm and blues (R&B) and ska music in the 1960s and later decades. Its reputation led to the use of the word bluebeat as a generic term to describe all styles of early Jamaican pop music, including music by artists not associated with the record label.
The album was well-received: BrooklynVegan and Punknews.org included the album in Best of 2022 lists, [27] [28] Pitchfork's Nina Corcoran called it "a modern classic in the ska-punk canon", [29] and music critic Anthony Fantano awarded the album an 8/10 score [7] and included it on his 2022 "Loved List". [30]
Buck-O-Nine is an American ska punk band which was formed in San Diego in 1991. [1] The band has toured internationally and released several albums and EPs, as well as appearing on compilations and film soundtracks.
"Sell Out" was released in 1996 and gained the band a distinct amount of attention, becoming a hit in that year. It received regular radio airplay in America and competed favourably on the charts in the UK, consequently, the video (see below) soon gained regular rotation on MTV, much to the surprise of Reel Big Fish bassist, Matt Wong.
