The first commercial rafting company, Himalayan River and Exploration, was registered in 1976 by Al Read. This was the first rafting company not only in Nepal but the entire Asia. The headquarters of the company was in Kathmandu and was run by American and Nepali staffs. In 1976, over 100 Nepalese were trained for the rafting job.
Perry's Camp, now known as Flat Branch Cottages, was founded c. 1928 when Charlie Perry developed the site where Flat Branch joins the Little Pigeon River as a tourist resort. [1] Located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee , Perry's Camp was one of the first tourist courts in the area that has since become a tourist mecca.
It was built in 1860, and is the last surviving structure from the pre-park Forks-of-the-River community. Repairs were carried out on the dilapidated cabin in 1964, which included replacing the front porch, and the cabin was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. [ 2 ]
The Noah Ogle Place, located along LeConte Creek just south of Gatlinburg, consists of a cabin, barn, and tub mill that were once part of the homestead of Noah "Bud" Ogle (1863–1913). The cabin is a "saddlebag" cabin, a design in which two cabins are built around the same chimney, with both cabins consisting of one story and loft.
