Jean Merilyn Simmons OBE (31 January 1929 – 22 January 2010) was a British actress and singer. [1] [2] One of J. Arthur Rank's "well-spoken young starlets," she appeared predominantly in films, beginning with those made in Britain during and after the Second World War, followed mainly by Hollywood films from 1950 onwards.
Simmons was born Chaim Witz on August 25, 1949, at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel, to Jewish refugees from Hungary.His mother, Florence "Flora" Klein, later Lubowski (1925–2018) [1] was born in Jánd and survived internment in Nazi concentration camps [2] from November 1944 to her liberation from the Mauthausen camp in Austria on May 5, 1945.
