Added to NRHP. July 12, 1976. The church of St Thomas, the Apostle and Howard-Flaget House is a historic Roman Catholic church and home located at Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky. The church is a brick, cross-shaped plan with a round apse. It was designed by Baltimore architect Maximilian Godefroy and built 1813–1816.

The first Catholic church west of the Appalachian Mountains, Holy Cross, was constructed at Pottinger Creek in 1792. [4] In 1792, the Commonwealth of Kentucky was admitted to the union. [5] In 1793, Stephen T. Badin estimated that 300 Catholic families were living in Kentucky, clustered in six settlements around Bardstown. [6]
The Saint Francis of Assisi Complex in Louisville, Kentucky is a historic church at 1960 Bardstown Road. It was built in 1926-28 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. A rectory was built from 1916-1917. Construction began on the current church building in 1925. [1] The first Mass was celebrated in the building on August 1, 1927 and it was dedicated on September 5 of the same year. On May 10, 1947 the See City was transferred from Leavenworth, Kansas to Kansas City by Pope Pius XII. [3]
