    I am a regular on the Mayo Board! I don't know what I would do without it! Our doctors don't want to discuss openly the things about illnesses and side effets of drugs and other things. Anyway, my question to all of you is Gabapentin and it's side effects. I have been on it now for 6 months.

    This is an Anticonvulsant or an AntiEpilepsyDrug (AED.) All AED’s that I’m familiar with cause drowsiness, possible headache, dizziness & coordination issues. This like other symptoms can go away after taking it for awhile. Although I was hospitalized with Ataxia while on it.

    I have lots of vision issues but they are slow progression and couldn't be attributed to med. Vision didn't get better after I stopped gabapentin. 1 Reaction.     Best of health to you. The only side effect of Gabapentin for me was some dizziness for a couple of days. I have been on and off it for seven YEARS. I had been on 100-200 mg three times until 2022. Then it was raised to 300 mg three times a day. It was raised to 600 mg three times a day.

    REPLY. 1 reply. mghee | @mghee | Jun 19 12:35pm. I take 300mg of gabapentin in the morning and 600mg at night. I’m tired but I think it’s because I don’t sleep at night, because of discomfort. (I have neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and restless legs.) I walk the floor until the sensations and pain calm down.

    It's not reasonable for a doctor to explain all medication side effects. Some meds have over 500 potential side effects, most average around 100. There isn't enough time in a day for a doctor to explain every side effect of every drug. Take care, Jake

    I have been on Gabapentin most recently for rib injury- helps. 300 mg twice a day- can take it 3 times a day. I have not noticed any side effects. However, Gabapentin can cause a wide range of side effects. My dogs have taken it. I heard recently that postop patients are given Gabapentin instead of opioids.

    I have been on the same dose of 600mg/ day of Gabapentin for over 3 years. Side effects have been steadily increasing, especially cognitive impairment. I now have been diagnosed with gastroparesis as well. I have pudendal neuralgia as well as SFN, and do need pain management. I have been with Mayo Clinic for 3 years, seeing GI, PT, pain ...

    I stopped taking all Gabapentin and this side effect (ataxia) went away. I am now seeing another neurologist and informed him about my history. Gabapentin is helpful to me in lower doses and I have not noticed any side effects (other than constipation). I looked up the clinical trials of Gabapentin and ataxia is mentioned as a possible side effect.
