Hi I'm from the UK. I've just recently decided I wanted to be an art therapy. I'm due to finish my level 3 art and design.
You will require a masters degree to become an art therapist and conduct art therapy. There are ways to do art therapy in non clinical settings, such as Rec Centers or schools, as an art therapist, but this will require the same masters. Being an art therapist is a protected title and profession and there can be ramifications if you are ...
Welcome! This space is for trained art therapists, art therapy students and clients of art therapy that have questions regarding the process. Please refrain from sharing art involved in the art therapy process as this is an ethical guideline and not apart of the art therapy process.
Scholistico.com. The program is very comprehensive, covering all the essential aspects of art therapy, and it’s designed to be flexible, which was perfect for me. The course materials are top-notch, and they really dive deep into both the theory and practice of art therapy. From my experience and from what I’ve gathered talking to others in ...
Since competence is a fundamental value of INTJs, I have little to no worries about the education aspect of becoming an art therapist. Additionally, I'm not nearly as fond of math and science as I am about art/design and psychology, which makes the goal of being an art therapist seem all the more easier. Teaching students who are good at art, but arrogant, and never take your advice. Pros: Using my creativity to come up with new projects. Teaching kids who do love art, and helping them master that skill. Introducing new materials to students they have never tried before.
I’m stuck between being a child psychiatrist/PA and pursuing art therapy. I don't regret the work but I regret getting my master's in Art Therapy from a CAAHEP-only school. If I could do it again, I would look for either a CACREP-affiliated Art Therapy program or a dual counseling and art therapy program. Art Therapy is only a protected ...
Some places require a PhD. You cannot be a licensed therapist without therapy credentials. You may be able to market yourself as a mentor or coach. P.S. A fine arts degree is not the correct path to becoming an Art Therapist, and don’t let any institution tell you otherwise. 2.

I am in an anti-oppressive co-op agency so it’s like the best of private practice (set own schedule, work as much or little as I want, mostly do what I want) and agency work (we have an amazing and supportive community, lots of supervision and support with each other, paid time off, etc).
For the past few years, I’ve coveted a desire to pursue drama therapy. I’m 30 with a bachelor’s in theatre. Experiences with mental health and healing have played a significant role in my personal life, developing a natural interest in and curiosity about psychology and therapeutic practices. I also feel a great compassion for people.
