Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) is an American steel producer based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. With a production capacity of 13 million tons of steel, the company is the third largest producer of carbon steel products in the United States. It is among the most profitable American steel companies in terms of profit margins and operating margin per ton. [1]
Pittsboro is a town in Middle Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,928 at the 2010 Census , [ 4 ] up from 1,588 at the 2000 census. By 2018 the estimated population was 3,480.
For many years, the Gary Works was the world's largest steel mill, and it remains the largest integrated mill in North America. [1] It is operated by U.S. Steel . The Gary Works includes both steelmaking and finishing facilities as an integrated mill, and has an annual capacity of 8.2 million tons. [ 2 ]
In 1989, Nucor opened a facility in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the first mini mill in the world to produce flat rolled steel using thin-slab technology. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] In March 2000, a joint venture, owned 47.5% by Nucor, 47.5% by BlueScope , and 5% by IHI Corporation was formed to license Castrip technology. [ 11 ]
In 1998 General Dynamics bought NASSCO in a $415 million deal. [18] On October 31, 2011, General Dynamics-NASSCO acquired Metro Machine Corp, a surface-ship repair company in Norfolk, Virginia, and renamed it NASSCO-Norfolk. [19] The company had been conducting ship repairs and conversions for the U.S. Navy since 1972.
