A native of Alexandria, VA, [1] Krohme (often incorrectly listed as "Khrome") was born in 1980 to an African-American father and a mother of Spanish and German descent. He developed an ear for production via the eclectic music tastes of his parents and later through playing instruments in elementary school in Hawaii and later Virginia.
The company was founded by Charles J. August in 1957, originally as a franchise of another company, Midas Muffler. [2] In the mid-1960s, "Chuck" August decided that his muffler shops should offer an expanded list of services. This was not in line with the other organization's wishes. In 1966, he discontinued his affiliation with Midas Muffler. [2]
In 1983, GKN, a multinational British company, bought out Meineke Discount Mufflers. [5] In 1986, the company headquarters moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. [6] In 2003, the same year Meineke Discount Muffler Shops, Inc. became Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc., Meineke became a privately held company, no longer publicly traded. [7]
