Belka (Белка, literally, "squirrel", or alternatively "Whitey") and Strelka (Стрелка, "cursor") were dogs that spent a day in space aboard Korabl-Sputnik 2 (Sputnik 5) on 19 August 1960 before safely returning to Earth.
