Yang first gained popularity on the online platform TikTok with his song "Two Moons" and later "Toxic", "IDGAF", and "Understand". Until October 10, 2023, he was known for hiding his face behind an LED mask.

Moon was the last member of the Who to release a solo album. By this point, John Entwistle had released Smash Your Head Against the Wall (1971; with Moon playing percussion and singing backing vocals), Roger Daltrey released his hit album Daltrey (1973), and Pete Townshend had produced several Meher Baba tribute albums and the demo compilation Who Came First (1972).
A collection of songs had gathered that would become Moons songs. In 2008, Crofts took songs to The Lodge Recording Studio in Northampton and arranged to use the studio and pay weekly, since he didn't have funds. Crofts recorded five songs on which he played all instruments except drums. He named his time in the studio the Lunar sessions.
His six-song seasonal EP Have a Twilley Christmas (Digital Musicworks International, "DMI") appeared in 2004, followed by two more albums on the same label, his ninth studio album, 47 Moons, in 2005 and his first live album, Live: All Access in 2006. Tulsa was sold to DMI (now Digital Music Group, Incorporated, or DMGI) in 2004.
