Medina (/ m ə ˈ d aɪ n ə / ⓘ mə-DYNE-ə) is a city in and the county seat of Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,094 at the 2020 census . [ 5 ] It lies about 33 miles (53 km) south of Cleveland and 23 miles (37 km) west of Akron within the Cleveland metropolitan area .
The original name for the Township was to be Mecca, but was changed after a dispute among early settlers. [4] It is the only Medina Township statewide. [5] The township is attributed as being the oldest organized government in Medina County. [citation needed] Land from the township was included when the village of Medina was incorporated in 1818.
