Here's a way to create an Google Maps-based custom ZIP Code map on the fly by passing a comma-separated list of ZIP Codes as a URL parameter. You can also choose whether or not you want to show the merged ZIP Code merged boundary (e.g. to represent a service territory, sales territory or delivery area)
Narrow your results by using a zip code: gas in 94131. Find an intersection: 23rd and mission. Address, city, state, country, or airport: 1600 Amphitheater Parkway Mountain View CA, LAX, Los Angeles Airport, or Mount Everest, Nepal. Latitude and longitude coordinates: 41.40338, 2.17403. Zip codes can be translated into rough polygons and can be represented in GeoJSON. You can have "holes" represented in GeoJSON (to address one off buildings or areas that are not included in a Zip Code, if these are really necessary).
For each year, there is an accompanying webpage. Select "Zip Code Tabulation Areas", and you will see a download link for a file. For example, the 2013 file is named "2013_Gaz_zcta_national.zip", which unzips into a tab-separated file. The schema for this file contains a zip code and a latitude, longitude pair, presumably the centroid of the ...
A five-digit ZIP code covers an arbitrary collection of delivery points (addresses). The USPS is the sole determiner of what ZIP code is assigned to what address, so they are the best source of current and correct data, which changes monthly. Cheap sources of current data are vendors like Semaphore Corporation.
ZIP codes represent groups of addresses or delivery routes. The +4 codes might narrow it down to a block, a building or single organization. ZIP+4 data is available directly from the USPS (including a file that relates it TIGER) or from third parties who have taken the USPS data and repackaged presumably with value added.
To format your coordinates so they work in Google Maps, use decimal degrees in the following format: Correct: 41.40338, 2.17403; Incorrect: 41,40338, 2,17403; Tips: List your latitude coordinates before longitude coordinates. Check that the first number in your latitude coordinate is between -90 and 90.

In any case, the Census Bureau provides so-called zip code tabulation areas which are polygonic approximations of zip codes. I say approximations because zip codes are really points on a map and may not conform to neat boundaries as typically seen on a map.
