The line is 28.6 km (17.8 mi) long and is elevated, running above the existing eastern railway, with an underground terminal at the airport. Commuter trips take 27 minutes from Phaya Thai to Suvarnabhumi Airport. [4] Unlike most railways in Thailand, which use meter-gauge railways, the Airport Rail Link uses standard-gauge railways.

This would use the current ARL tracks, and would connect all three nearby airports; starting at Don Mueang International Airport and passing through Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, Makkasan Station, Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Si Racha, Pattaya and terminating at U-Tapao International Airport. Originally the HSR station was planned to be situated near Bali Hai Pier, connecting to a new Pattaya Monorail, however it is now planned to be built outside the city center in Huai Yai in Bang Lamung District.
