Monee Township is one of 24 townships in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 15,669 and it contained 6,182 housing units. [ 2 ] Monee Township used to be known as Carcy Township, but the name was changed at an unknown date.
As of the census [9] of 2000, there were 2,939 people, 1,204 households, and 872 families residing in the village. The population density was 243.3 inhabitants per square mile (93.9/km 2).
There is evidence that the Fox River valley near Silver Springs was populated by indigenous people near the end of the last ice age, 10–14,000 years ago. [1] The original 1,250 acres (510 ha) tract of land that became Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area was purchased by the state of Illinois in 1969, and has been open since January of that year.
The centerpiece of Moraine View is the 158 acre (0.6 km 2) Dawson Lake, an artificial reservoir built in 1962-1963. Fish stocked in the lake by the DNR include largemouth bass, bluegill (the state fish of Illinois), sunfish, bullhead, crappie, channel catfish, walleye, yellow perch and northern pike.
