Captain Beaky's band consist of Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat. The title track from the first album, "Captain Beaky", was released as a 7 inch single with "Wilfred the Weasel" and "Blanche" on the B-side by Polydor in 1980; it reached Number 5 in the UK Singles Chart and number 36 in Australia. Michell illustrated Captain Beaky, a collection of Jeremy Lloyd's poems. [6] The Captain Beaky character enjoyed success in the UK in the early 1980s, among both children and adults. The song "Captain Beaky", sung by Michell, peaked at No. 5 and No. 36 in the UK and Australia respectively in 1980.

I've added the track listings for the Polydor 1977 'Captain Beaky And His Band' tape, which has almost all of the Vol I and Vol II songs. I'm not sure of my identification of "The Trial of Hissing Sid!!!" as track 22, having lost the sleeve notes at one point. This track is where a mole describes Hissing Sid hypnotizing a mouse girl.
The B-side "Toom-Toom is a Little Boy" appears on a rare EP released in pre-revolutionary Iran in 1968, alongside tracks by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, Otis Redding and Tommy James. [8] "Captain of Your Ship" remains a popular oldie in the UK, and it has been re-released there three times.
