Mount Maroon is a mountain in South East Queensland that is part of the McPherson Range. The mountain rises to 966 m (3,169 ft) above sea level about 12 km west of Rathdowney . The original indigenous name for the mountain is Wahlmoorum which means sand goanna in the Yuggera language. [ 1 ]

The mountain consists of two main peaks, (East Peak and the slightly higher West Peak), and smaller subsidiary peaks. East Peak is probably the most popular destination for bushwalkers. The closest town is Rathdowney. Mount Barney is surrounded by other mountains including Mount Ballow, Mount May, Mount Ernest, Mount Maroon and Mount Lindesay.
It is endemic only in a small area around Mount Maroon in the Mount Barney National Park in south eastern Queensland to the south of Boonah where it is found at elevations of around 900 m (3,000 ft) on rocky slopes and in crevices growing in thin sandy-loam soils as a part of heathland communities.
