The stadium was built in 1929 in just five weeks for the Leicester Super Speedway, on farm land surrounding Lodge Farm. [1] [2] It was located on the east side of East Avenue and the north side of Central Avenue (found at the far eastern end of Mostyn Avenue) which in turn was located off the main road called Melton Road.
Moore Park Speedway is a motorcycle speedway venue approximately 5 kilometers north of West Melton. Located on Weedons Ross Road, it is adjacent to West Melton airfield. [ 1 ] The track also hosts sidecar and flattrack races [ 2 ] and includes a smaller track inside the 320m circuit for junior racing.
Promotion company Speedways and Sports Ltd initially approached Leicestershire County Cricket Club in 1929 with a proposal to construct Leicester's second speedway track (after Leicester Stadium) around the edge of the pitch on Aylestone Road, but when this was rejected an alternative site near the tram terminus on Melton Road was used, the Syston Sports Stadium was built in just five weeks.
