Shippensburg is located in south-central Pennsylvania primarily in Cumberland County, but extending west into Franklin County. U.S. Route 11 passes through the center of town as King Street; US 11 leads northeast 20 miles (32 km) to Carlisle, the Cumberland County seat, and southwest 11 miles (18 km) to Chambersburg, the Franklin County seat.

Shippensburg Township is a township in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States, adjacent to the borough of Shippensburg. The population of the township was 5,429 at the 2010 census, [4] up from 4,504 at the 2000 census. The township is the location of the majority of the property of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
Fort Morris (sometimes referred to as the fort at Shippensburg) was a stockaded blockhouse built in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War to protect local settlers from Native American raids. It was also a supply depot for the Pennsylvania militia, and for troops participating in the Forbes Expedition.
