October 05, 2019, 12:26:11 PM. Seems to me that twist rate depends upon the intended use of the rifle. The 6.5 CM was pretty much designed around 140 - 143 bullets. Remington originally used a 1 in 9" for the .260 REM, and for a number of years while it was available, the CZ 550s in 6.5 x 55mm had a 1 in 8.67" twist.
Logged. #9. March 04, 2017, 12:53:25 PM. I have used Hornady 129gr Interlocks for years in a 260 Reminton and 6.5 CM to take Mule Deer and Whitetails from 50yd to 350yd and they work just fine. I see Hornady is using that bullet in their "Whitetail Hunter" brand. If you don,t reload, that would be a good choice.
September 15, 2017, 06:34:50 PM. Just picked a Tikka T3X Tac A1 in 6.5mm Creedmoor last week. Opened it NIB. Rifle looked great. I was a little disappointed with the finish on the hand guard but other than that fit and finish was superb. First thing to go on the rifle was the break.
Logged. May 20, 2016, 08:17:57 PM. Rob01 turned me on to Graf and Sons a while back and they have a great price on loaded ELD-X. Was just on their site and discovered Hornady is loading the 6.5 CM in their American Whitetail line. 129 grain Interlock bullet at 2820 FPS. Price $22.59 per box and flat rate shipping of $7.95 per order.
Global Moderator. RL-17, for any bullet weight. RL-19 for heavy bullets, loaded long to get more powder in. IMR or H4895 for 120 class bullets. Varget works for the lighter 120 - 130 grain bullets as well. The 6.5 is so accurate, it really isn't hard to find a good shooting load with any powder really.
The Hornady manual shows a start load using Alliant RL15 of 33.5gr at 2400fps, and a max of 37.9gr at 2650fps. So, the obvious precautions about working up and watching pressures. I'm still waiting for my dies to arrive, so I've not worked up any of my own loads so far, but I'm starting with the 140gr ELD-M. I did use the 143gr ELD-X (Factory ...
It's 3/4" longer than AR15 style and let's you use 3.25" AR15 style carbine buffers. An AR15 length carbine buffer tube needs a shorty 2.5" buffer which limits your buffer options quite a bit. The Vltor A5 and POF .308 tubes are the same length as the "AR10" carbine buffer tube so there are options.
The original Hornady 140gr Amax match ammo using H4350 was 41.5gr. Using 140 ELD-M's my custom build 6.5CM liked 41.6gr and around 2800fps. My RPR settled in at 41.2gr and 2725fps. Some people are pushing them up into the high 2800's going up to 43grs.

DWB. For me, my best accuracy has been with 43.1 gr of H-414 (Fed #210 M primer) under the Hornady 129 gr SST. This load is producing 2,900 fps (SD=16.4) from my 26" barreled, bone stock Ruger 77 Hawkeye All-Weather. Another good load for me has been 42.5 gr of H-4350 (Fed #210M primer), which produces 2,850 fps (SD=9.1).
