The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin-turbofan, straight-wing, subsonic attack aircraft developed by Fairchild Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). In service since 1977, it is named after the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt , but is commonly referred to as the " Warthog " or simply " Hog ". [ 3 ]
The C-119 could carry cargo, personnel, stretcher patients and mechanized equipment with the ability to make "paradrops" of cargo and troops. The first C-119 made its initial flight in November 1947, and by the time production ceased in 1955, more than 1,100 C-119s had been built for use in the USAF, the Royal Canadian Air Force and others ...
The Republic Aviation Corporation was an American aircraft manufacturer based in Farmingdale, New York, on Long Island.Originally known as the Seversky Aircraft Company, the company was responsible for the design and production of many important military aircraft, including its most famous products: World War II's P-47 Thunderbolt fighter, the F-84 Thunderjet and F-105 Thunderchief jet fighters.

The A-10 engines now have a self-sustaining combustion section. When the gun is fired, the igniters come on to reduce the possibility of a flameout. [20] The average recoil force of the GAU-8/A is 10,000 pounds-force (45 kN), [5] [21] which is slightly more than the output of each of the A-10's two TF34 engines of 9,065 lbf (40.3 kN). [22]
Colonel Kim Nichole Reed-Campbell (born June 6, 1975) [3] is a retired United States Air Force officer and Command Pilot. [1] She was decorated for piloting her A-10 Thunderbolt II back to base in southern Iraq after taking heavy anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) damage in aerial combat over Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
I also have some issues with the prose, style, and some of the facts. For instance the gun program that produced the GAU-8 was separate from the A-10 program. One of three proposed guns were central to the design of the A-10. The flight competition was already over and fairchild was moving into production before the gau-8 was even chosen.
