MidCity District (formerly known as MidCity Huntsville for a brief period of time) is a mixed-use retail development center currently being built in Huntsville, Alabama on the corner of University Drive and Research Park Boulevard (SR-255) on the land formerly used for Madison Square Mall.
With news of the purchase, both the new owners and the city of Huntsville announced an expansion for the development. [4] Phase 3, which began in January 2013, includes a two-level, 170,000 square foot flagship Belk department store, 45,000 square feet of new retail space in four additional buildings, and new surface and deck parking.
The Heart of Huntsville Mall was the first enclosed shopping mall in Huntsville when it opened in 1961. The 250,000 sq ft (23,000 m 2) single-story complex was built just outside downtown at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Memorial Parkway. [3] Its major tenant was a 48,000 sq ft (4,500 m 2) Sears at the southern end of the mall.
