Dredd reluctantly joins forces with Batman, returning home with Anderson once Death is defeated. The story was followed by three other crossovers also written by Wagner and Grant but with different artists each time: Batman/Judge Dredd: Vendetta in Gotham, Batman/Judge Dredd: The Ultimate Riddle, and Batman/Judge Dredd: Die Laughing #1–2.
Batman is frustrated at his inability to explain himself to Dredd, until telepath Judge Anderson scans Batman's mind to ensure that Death is not "hiding" in his brain, and explains Death's nature and motives to Batman. Batman insists on returning to Gotham immediately, and Dredd insists on Batman first serving a 20-year sentence for his "crimes".
Games Workshop (GW) first published Judge Dredd: The Role-Playing Game in 1985. The following year, GW released the game's first adventure, Judgement Day. [2] The 32-page book was written by Marcus L. Rowland, with a cover by Brett Ewins. It also included 16 pages of player aids and cardstock miniatures of non-player characters. [3]
Mongoose Publishing produced two versions of a Judge Dredd roleplaying game. In 2002, they acquired the rights to publish games set in the worlds created by 2000AD, and quickly released The Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game, which used the d20 rules system. [2]: 108 In 2009, they released a new version of Judge Dredd, using their Traveller rules set.
In a review of The Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game in Black Gate, Robert Rowe said "Overall, if you like Judge Dredd and don't absolutely hate the Traveller rules system, this is an excellent game packed with key information and well-laid out stats, all bound together in a very slick package." [2]

The Judge's Companion (1987), featuring artwork of PSI-Judge Anderson on the cover, was a rules expansion and adventure anthology that came in softcover and hardcover editions. The later hardbound edition of the Judge Dredd rulebook (1989) combined the Game Master and Judge's Books into one volume and added some content from the Judge's Companion.
