Faculty of Agriculture (FA) offers B.Sc. Agriculture(Special) four-year degree in Agriculture [3] On the recommendation of the committee on affiliated University colleges (1994), nine Affiliated University colleges spread out in various provinces of the country were merged to form two National Universities, the Rajarata and the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka in 1996.
Established in 1972 by amalgamating the four existing universities, it was the only university in Sri Lanka from 1972 until 1978. The university was based at six campuses in Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jaffna. The university was dissolved in 1978 and its six campuses became independent universities.

It was a full-fledged university naming as Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in 1999. The main purpose of the university is offering English-medium degrees, diplomas and certificate courses (internal and external) in areas such as Agriculture, Applied Science, Management and Technology for students and working professionals.
The Foreign Student Affairs Office, chaired by Lalith Ananda, provides students with an opportunity to gain international experience with split programmes, student exchange programmes, and study visits. The office also provides an opportunity for the international community to participate in the university's academic and research activities. [11]
