University City is the easternmost portion of West Philadelphia, encompassing several Philadelphia universities. It is situated directly across the Schuylkill River from Center City. The University of Pennsylvania was instrumental in coining the name University City as part of a 1950s urban renewal and gentrification effort.
It was originally the home of Hahnemann University, which merged with the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1993. Drexel acquired MCP Hahnemann University in 2002. The campus is located in Center City, Philadelphia, Broad and 15th Streets. [7] The School of Public Health moved to the main campus in 2014. [8]

The Dornsife School of Public Health was located in downtown Philadelphia from its inception until December 2013. It has since re-located to the University City Campus . The Dornsife School of Public Health was founded in 1996, [ 1 ] with Jonathan Mann as its first dean.
