From a period of late 2014 to mid-2015, GDOT proposed to widen I-20 from the Alabama state line eastward to Villa Rica, GA. Most of that length had the roadway widened from four to six lanes, with ultimate plans to widen to at least six lanes from Birmingham, Alabama, to Atlanta. In 2015, the widening project begin.
