The town of Waverly was formed in 1880 from part of the town of Dickinson.Half its area was lost to the town of Altamont (the present-day town of Tupper Lake) in 1890.The St. Regis Falls area was a major lumber producer, and the Northern Adirondack Railroad was built from Moira, connecting the area to the Ogdensburg and Lake Champlain Railroad.

Anderson Galleries began as an auctioner of books, prints, and occasionally called Anderson Auction Company. It was founded by John Anderson Jr. in 1900 and later renamed Anderson Galleries.
