Wordings such as "17 years ago" or "Jones is 65 years old" should be rewritten as "in 2008", "Jones was 65 years old at the time of the incident", or "Jones was born in 1960". If a direct quote contains relative time, ensure the date of the quote is clear, such as "Joe Bloggs in 2007 called it 'one of the best books of the last decade'".
