The foundation of relations between India and Nepal was laid with the Indo-Nepalese friendship Treaty in 1950. In the 1950s, the Rana rulers of the Kingdom of Nepal welcomed close relations with the newly independent India, fearing a China-backed communist overthrow of their autocratic regime after the success of Communist revolution in China and establishment of CCP government on October 1, 1949.

The Tripartite Agreement between the United Kingdom, India and Nepal is a treaty signed in 1947 concerning the rights of Gurkhas recruited in military services of United Kingdom and India. [1] This agreement does not apply to Gurkhas employed in the Nepalese Army.
As the document says that it would supersede the country's laws in case of conflict, it needed to be ratified by the parliament, according to the Nepal Treaty Act.
