The trail was created through a partnership between the Mohican/Malabar Bike Club and ODNR. Since then, work has continued to expand the mountain bike trail to a total of 24.5 miles (39.4 km). At 1,116 feet (340 m) above sea level, it rises approximately 300 feet above the surrounding land. On clear days, it is possible to see the skyline of Downtown Columbus from one of the overlook points on top of the ridge. Other features of the park include picnic areas and extensive mountain biking trails.
The park features four trails: the Hermit Thrush Trail has 0.125 miles through forest, the Columbus Rotary Running Track is 0.5 miles, and the Wetland Trail is 0.4 miles. The longest is the Scioto Greenway Trail, which runs through the park for about 2 miles. It also connects north to the Olentangy Trail, which runs 14 miles to Worthington. [3] [5]
The trail is planned to be 326 miles (525 km) in length. Of that number, 267 miles (430 km) are complete and in daily use, 59 miles (95 km) are either under construction or in engineering design, as of Nov 2016. [7] By the end of 2022 the Ohio to Erie Trail will have over 90% dedicated bike trails and 3.6% streets and 5.9% rural roads.
