The Shire of Shepparton was a local government area in the Goulburn Valley region, about 180 kilometres (112 mi) north of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of 927.49 square kilometres (358.1 sq mi), and existed from 1884 until 1994.
The City of Greater Shepparton is a local government area in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia, located in the north-east part of the state. It covers an area of 2,422 square kilometres (935 sq mi) and, in August 2021, had a population of 68,409. [ 1 ]
The council was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the City of Shepparton, Shire of Shepparton, and parts of the Shire of Rodney, Shire of Euroa, Shire of Goulburn, Shire of Tungamah, Shire of Violet Town and Shire of Waranga. The council office complex is located at 90 Welsford Street and the council meets in the Chambers there.

Shepparton was held by the National/Country Party from its creation in 1945 until 2014, although it was abolished for a twelve-year period between 1955 and 1967. [2] The current member is National Kim O'Keeffe , who was elected at the 2022 state election , [ 3 ] defeating Independent Suzanna Sheed , who was elected in the 2014 election .
It is the second-largest town in the Shire of Campaspe, situated between the towns of Echuca and Shepparton and is close to the Murray River, Goulburn River, Campaspe River and Waranga Basin. As of the 2021 census the town had a population of 7,416 people and provides services to a district population of around 16,000. [ 1 ]
