The Greenwich Village townhouse explosion occurred on March 6, 1970, in New York City, United States.Members of the Weather Underground (Weathermen), an American leftist militant group, were making bombs in the basement of 18 West 11th Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, when one of them exploded.
The Weather Underground was referred to as a terrorist group by articles in The New York Times, United Press International, and Time Magazine. [ 150 ] [ 151 ] [ 152 ] The group fell under the jurisdiction of the FBI-New York City Police Anti-Terrorist Task Force, a forerunner of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Forces.
