Prior to 1887, Catholics in the Riverdale section of the Bronx attended either St. John's in Kingsbridge or St. Mary's in Yonkers. The parish was established in 1887 by the Rev. James F. Kiley, with initial services being held in St. Vincent's Free School (now Le Gras Hall on the Campus of Mount Saint Vincent College).

The church of St. Margaret of Antioch was built in 1900 and replaced in 1931 after a 1929 fire. Saint Margaret School was organized in 1953 by Pastor Michael Toner and the Dominican sisters of Blauvelt, with classes for grades 1 through 4 being offered that year in temporary quarters and a new building with 8 classrooms and a gymnasium being dedicated by Cardinal Spellman the following year.

The Incarnation School is located at 570 West 175th Street. In 1914, the school which had been built with the church and completed in 1910 was in the charge of two Sisters of Charity of New York and two lay teachers, who oversaw 125 pupils. [2] It was formerly staffed by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. [4]
