In Rapid City, US 16 follows Mount Rushmore Road to a concurrency with South Dakota Highway 44 (SD 44; Omaha Street) to the southern terminus of I-190. US 16 stays concurrent with I-190 until both highways end at I-90. This section of US 16 is defined at South Dakota Codified Laws § 31-4-138. [3]

Interstate 190 (I-190) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway in the US state of South Dakota. The route runs for about two miles (3.2 km) connecting I-90 to downtown Rapid City. The entire route is concurrent with US Highway 16 (US 16).

The Keystone Wye is a three-level Directional T interchange for the two divided highways, constructed in 1967–1968 as part of a project by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) to convert US 16 to a four-lane highway between Rapid City and Keystone.
