On February 14, 1987, at Noon, the station flipped to the new format initially dubbed New Adult Contemporary (NAC) as "94.7 The Wave" with the new callsign KTWV. The first songs on "The Wave" were "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" by Sting followed by "Maputo" by Bob James and David Sanborn.
That station is known as "94.7 The Wave" and owned by Audacy. Then-owner Metromedia converted rock-formatted KMET to KTWV and "The Wave" on February 14, 1987, nearly two years after the launch of KWVE-FM's current Christian format. Both stations emphasize their FM frequencies to distinguish themselves from each other.

CHKX-FM originally launched on September 1, 2000, as CIWV-FM with a smooth jazz format by Burlingham Communications Inc., a company controlled by Douglas Kirk, the owner of CJKX-FM in Ajax. Local radio consultant Rae Roe initially owned a small interest in the company. Roe sold his interest in the station in early 2001.
