Ovation of the Seas is a Quantum-class cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean International (RCI) and the third ship of her class. The Quantum class is the fourth largest class of cruise ships behind MSC Cruises's Meraviglia class, Royal Caribbean International's Oasis class, and Royal Caribbean International's Icon Class by gross tonnage.
Ovation of the Seas visited Wellington for the first time in 2016, beating Queen Mary 2's record as the largest (348 m long) cruise ship to visit Wellington.
On 18 September 2014, the name of the third Quantum-class ship was announced to be Ovation of the Seas. [19] Ovation of the Seas was delivered to Royal Caribbean on 8 April 2016. [20] The ship was originally planned to homeport in Tianjin to sail in Asia, [20] but moved to Sydney in June 2016 to begin cruising in Oceania seasonally.
The first large cruise ships were the Voyager-class from Royal Caribbean Group's Royal Caribbean International (RCI). These ships, which debuted in 1998 at over 137,000 GT, were almost 30,000 GT larger than the next-largest cruise ships, and were some of the first designed to offer amenities unrelated to cruising, such as an ice rink and climbing wall. [1]
[31] [34] Shortly after this success, the Voyager of the Seas with a maximum ocupancy of 4,000 guests, made her maiden voyage to Sydney, docking at the OPT and within a single day, involved a turn-over of 6,600 passengers, the single largest one-day turnover to date. That was until the arrival of the MS Ovation of the Seas in 2016.
Oasis of the Seas was scheduled to cruise the Mediterranean out of Barcelona in summer 2019 before undergoing a major drydock at the end of the season. [38] After spending nearly three months in dry dock receiving upgrades and new amenities, Oasis of the Seas then repositioned to her new homeport of Miami for the fall and winter 2019 seasons. [38]
