Low-pressure coolant injection is the emergency injection mode of the Residual Heat Removal (RHR) system. LPCI can be operated at reactor vessel pressures below 375 psi. LPCI consists of several pumps which are capable of injecting up to 150,000 L/min (40,000 US gal/min) of water into the reactor.
An LPCI is an emergency system which consists of a pump that injects a coolant into the reactor vessel once it has been depressurized.
