BancNet was founded on July 17, 1990, as the Philippines' second ATM consortium when the ATMs of eight banks, PCI Bank (later Equitable PCI Bank, now Banco de Oro), Security Bank, Chinabank, RCBC, Allied Bank (now part of PNB), Metrobank, International Exchange Bank (now part of UnionBank) and CityTrust Banking Corp. (now part of BPI) formed BancNet.
The service has two major components: the infrastructure and the support services. BancNet deploys credit authorization terminals with requisite supplies, provides store signage (or point of sale display), maintains toll free connections for provincial merchants (PLDT, Innove (Globe Telecom) and Digitel) and performs actual transactions settlement (finance) (through the BN depository bank).

The migration to BancNet allowed its over 200,000 cardholders 24/7 access to PVB through the network's over 4,000 ATMs nationwide as well as access to BancNet's multitude of services. PVB named former Finance Secretary Roberto De Ocampo , a son of a World War II veteran, as its new Chairman in July 2013. [ 6 ]
BancNet is the sole surviving entity, while MegaLink has been repurposed. [2] MegaLink now lists itself as a BancNet member under the independent ATM deployer category. [ 3 ] Following the repurposing, MegaLink and its assets were sold to the Japanese conglomerate Hitachi , of which MegaLink is now a subsidiary.

Nationlink is an interbank network and EFTPOS network in the Philippines.Unlike the main Philippine interbank networks, BancNet, ENS, Expressnet and MegaLink, Nationlink does not attempt to compete.
PBCom is a member of BancNet and the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation. In 2014, PBCom acquired a majority stake with the Controlling Stockholders of Dipolog -based rural bank Banco Dipolog , thus making the said bank as PBCom's subsidiary.
