Clarence Alfred Gilyard Jr. [1] (December 24, 1955 – November 23, 2022 [2]) was an American actor.He was best known to television audiences for his roles as private investigator Conrad McMasters on the legal drama series Matlock (1986–95) and Texas Ranger Jimmy Trivette on Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001).
In 1997 he got the role of Trent Malloy in a two-hour Walker, Texas Ranger movie called Sons of Thunder. The role became a recurring one for Jimmy, who went on to guest star in several more episodes of the long-running series. In 1999, a spin-off series called Sons of Thunder was created with Jimmy in one of the lead roles.

In the eighties, C.D. was a Texas Ranger, and after a long period where he was captain of the rangers as well. He was also partnered with Walker when Walker first joined the Texas Rangers. In the show, he is retired and owns a restaurant in Texas called "C.D.'s Bar and Grill".
