Albert Pierrepoint (/ ˈ p ɪər p ɔɪ n t / PEER-point; 30 March 1905 – 10 July 1992) was an English hangman who executed between 435 and 600 people in a 25-year career that ended in 1956. A welder in civilian life, Dernley was dubbed, albeit incorrectly, as also Albert Pierrepoint, "the last British hangman" (in fact, this title belongs jointly to Harry Allen and Robert Leslie Stewart). More accurately, Dernley was one of the last surviving hangmen, following the deaths of both Pierrepoint and Allen in 1992.
