Taylor County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 143,208. [1] [2] Its county seat is Abilene. [3] The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1878. [4] It is named for Edward Taylor, George Taylor, and James Taylor, three brothers who died at the Battle of the Alamo.
Taylor is home to the Taylor High School Ducks. As of 2011, Taylor Independent School District was ranked 634th of 953 Texas school districts, and Taylor High School is ranked 850th of 1517 Texas public high schools, placing both the school district and the high school in the middle one-third of Texas schools. Farm to Market Road 613 (FM 613) is located in Taylor County. It runs from FM 89 in Buffalo Gap south and east via Tuscola to US 84. FM 613 was designated on July 30, 1945, to run from FM 89 in Buffalo Gap to US 83 in Tuscola. On November 10, 1947, the road was extended north to US 277 (now 14th Street) in Abilene, replacing a section of FM 89.
FM 1750 was first designated on May 23, 1951; the original route was a section southward 6.1 miles (9.8 km) from SH 36 in Abilene, but it was extended through Potosi and to another connection with SH 36 on December 17, 1952, adding 6.2 miles (10.0 km). [1]
