N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT or N,N-DMT) is a substituted tryptamine that occurs in many plants and animals, including humans, and which is both a derivative and a structural analog of tryptamine. [1] [2] [3] DMT is used as a psychedelic drug and prepared by various cultures for ritual purposes as an entheogen. [9]
In the Western world DMT is more commonly consumed via the vaporisation of freebase DMT. Whereas Ayahuasca typically lasts for several hours, inhalation has an onset measured in seconds and has effects measured in minutes, being significantly more intense. [43]
5-MeO-DMT is lipophilic and is thought to easily cross the blood–brain barrier. [2] Accordingly, 5-MeO-DMT readily accumulates in the brain in animals with levels higher than in blood. [2] This is in notable contrast to bufotenin (5-HO-DMT or N,N-dimethylserotonin) and serotonin (5-HT), which are hydrophilic and peripherally selective. [2 ...

6-MeO-DMT, or 6-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, also known as 6-OMe-DMT, is a serotonergic drug of the tryptamine family. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is the 6- methoxy derivative of the serotonergic psychedelic N , N -dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and is a positional isomer of the serotonergic psychedelic 5-MeO-DMT .
Other methods are nasal inhalation and nasal instillation. Drugs administered in this way can have a local effect or a systemic effect. The time of onset for systemic drugs delivered via nasal administration is generally only marginally slower than if given intravenously.
Given enough time in unfavorable conditions, 4-AcO-DMT can sometimes turn into a degraded form which is brown in color and can even progress into a brown/black tar-like substance. Researchers hypothesize this is a polymerization reaction and is said to have no effect on the potency of the substance.
Pulmonary drug delivery is mainly utilized for topical applications in the lungs, such as the use of inhaled beta-agonists, corticosteroids and anticholinergic agents for the treatment of asthma and COPD, the use of inhaled mucolytics and antibiotics for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CT) and respiratory viral infections, [1] and the use of inhaled prostacyclin analogs for the treatment of ...
