Dance Dance Revolution X2 was released on December 31, 2010 in the United States. Internationally, Dance Dance Revolution X2 was imported in Canada on December 5, 2011 at the Funhaven amusement centre in Ottawa, Ontario. As of August 2019, this is the sole venue in Canada to feature this game, after a competitor withdrew an upgraded machine.
The music of Dance Dance Revolution X2 consists largely of the licensed songs released across multiple DDR games in North America. In addition a number of Konami Originals that were released in Dance Dance Revolution games globally and a number of returning songs from previous DDR games make up the eclectic collection of music in DDR X2.

The original soundtrack for Dance Dance Revolution X was released in Japan on January 29, 2009, coinciding with the release of the PlayStation 2 version of X. The soundtrack consists of 3 CDs, which feature the songs from the game, songs from the Wii release Full Full Party (the Japanese version of Hottest Party 2 ) and a nonstop megamix disc.
The licensed tracks brought over from Dance Dance Revolution X2 (PS2) and Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 have also been removed. Counting the revivals, there are a total of 516 songs in X3 mode. With the exception of the removed songs listed, all songs from Dance Dance Revolution X2 are still playable.
