Roja is a 1992 Indian Tamil-language romantic thriller film directed and co-written by Mani Ratnam.The film stars Arvind Swamy and Madhoo (credited as Madhubala). The film was produced by K. Balachander under his Kavithalayaa Productions and distributed by G. Venkateswaran.
Roja entered the film industry with Telugu film Prema Thapassu (1991) with Rajendra Prasad. The entire movie was shot in Tirupati. She was introduced to the Tamil film industry by director R. K. Selvamani with Chembaruthi (1992), along with actor Prashanth. The movie was a hit and paved way for role in another success, Suriyan with Sarath Kumar.
It stars Jagapathi Babu, Aamani, and Roja. The film was produced by K. Venkateswara Rao under the Sri Priyanka Pictures banner and presented by C. Aswani Dutt. Nippu Ravva was delayed and when Rahman was called, Roja had not released. Rahman ended up doing a major part of the score and its programming and arrangement, Raj-Koti suggested Rahman himself be credited for the whole score. After delays, the film was released in 1993, by when Roja became a major musical success.
